Meet the September 2018 Students of the Month
On-Campus Student: Dane Murzyn
Dane is a junior at Fort Hays State University majoring in Organizational Leadership. He is originally from Denver, Colorado. Dane's favorite class in his coursework has been LDRS 302: Introduction to Leadership Behaviors. He has enjoyed this class the most because of Dr. Jill Arensdorf and all of the great classmates he has had. He is also grateful for the experience because it helped him realize how to use his behaviors to become a better and more efficient leader. Dane got involved with Leadership Programs because, after changing his significance three times, he realized that the on-campus activities and organizations he was involved in aligned with being a leadership major.
Furthermore, he wanted to learn how to be a better leader to influence and impact more people positively on campus and in the community. When not in class, Dane enjoys being a VIP Ambassador, Student Success Coach for Freshman Seminar, Orientation Leader, Barn hoppers dance instructor, and participating in the Tigers Undergraduate Fellows Program. He also works for the University Activities Board as the Vice President of Recruitment and Retention housed in the Memorial Union.
International Student: Yihong (Jasmine) Guo
Jasmine is a senior at SIAS University in China. Jasmine is currently an Organizational Leadership. Jasmine chose to get involved with Leadership Programs because "In the beginning, I just wanted to learn how to be a leader (the kind that is more power-oriented). In the learning process, I found that leadership is not only to teach some of the leadership characteristics and theories but, more importantly, self-improvement and practical learning, the interaction of leadership and behavior. What I feel in leadership is the final and most important reason why I chose leadership." Her favorite class so far has been LDRS 670: Leadership and Personal Development because it impacted her and produced some personal changes for her. Jasmine's hobbies include participating in the Yoga club and Go club. Both of these activities help her to train her mind and stay relaxed during her daily life.
